Analyzing concept of graphic design in contemporary art practice and other specific areas, trying to interpret the relationship of design and art by designing posters.

With the development of global economy, design becomes to emerge. People have been more familiar with the concept of design. Actually in the early 20th
,the concept of design was introduced into China. However, most of the
employees are short of comprehensive qualities of planning, design and management and excellent designers are rare. All the above restricts the development of Chinese design causing it lacking strong motive of promoting competitive ability. Although lots of universities and colleges have offered courses on design in this area, most lacking experience are in the primary stage.
 
As a student who has studied fine arts nearly 20 years, I have a deep affection for arts. Graphic design is a kind of course that has a close relation with arts.
 
In both this lengthy history and in the relatively recent explosion of visual      communication in the 20th and 21st centuries, there is sometimes a blurring distinction and over-lapping of advertising art, graphic design and fine art. After all, they share many of the same elements, theories, principles, practices and languages, and sometimes the same benefactor or client. (wikiipedia)
 
The main common point of graphic design and art works is composition. It is one of the most important features of graphic design as well. Actually I have been keen on it since I was a MA Fine Art student. I always think composition is the most important element in an art work . I also think different composition represent different meaning. Especially In traditional Chinese painting ,composition can represent artistic conception which is a kind of expression of artists’ opinion.
 
Design and art, there are too much common points between them ,we all know design is work , Milton Glaser also said : art is work . In contemporary art and design works, they effect each other.
 
Methodology and work plan
Stage 1- Research
In order to complete my project, I will do more research at the first stage。I have been interested in poster design, having seen many wonderful poster design works, I still want to be more knowledgeable about this area. I am sure that I can develop my learning particularly through the study of poster design, looking in detail at past or current excellent design works of my choice.
 
Stage 2- Practice and Crits
This stage is common to all of the courses within Postgraduate Art Program and helps me involved in the postgraduate and research community at CCW. The fundamental research skills enable me to make judicious decisions of appropriate methods used in my chosen field of study and my professional future. The unit verifies specific research skills and different kinds of research covering the fields of interviewing, literature search and review, archival skills, software for use in research and e-resources, referencing. Seminars and workshops are also very important. They put emphasis on participation and the cultivation of nucleus research skills through practical exercises and small group projects.
 
Stage 3- Independent Research Project
At the stage of independent research project, I am intended to focus on the preparation of my research project proposal and to widen the context in which design works are produced. The aesthetics theories are important, which can make me know more about the past and today’s development of graphic design and have a further understanding of the concept of graphic design.
 
Outcomes
All in all, graphic design in UK has developed very consummately while in China it is still at its primary stage. Mature theories, happening at every moment, healthy development and professional atmosphere of art attract me to be here and choose the MA course of graphic design.I will try to find the art
